Bus fares to increase from 1st August

The government sources have informed today that the bus fares would increase by 6% from the coming August 1st.

This amount had been much higher than the proposed 3.2 percentage suggested by the government. As the bus fares were not increased at the correct time period the officials of the private bus associations had wanted the bus fares to be increased by 6 percent otherwise they had threatened of a bus strike island wide. In this contest it is reported that the government had to accede to this demand.

Accordingly the fare for the first section would increase from Rs 8/-to Rs 9/- and the increase of fares for the remaining sections would be notified later.
