Basil who was arrested for the GI pipe case hospitalized
The former minister for economic development Basil Rajapaksa brother of the former president Mahinda Rajapaksa had used his sole authority to authorise to use government money amounting to over rupees three and a half billion from the budget of the ministry of economic development to purchase of GI pipes to hoist advertising boards island wide campaigning for Mahinda Rajapaksa's
presidential race.
After investigating into a complaint made against Basil Rajapaksa to the police financial crime investigation division he was produced before courts on the charges for ordering to release funds he was ordered to be remanded.
In this regard the members of the joint opposition have claimed that as a revenge taken from former minister Basil Rajapaksa who is to strengthen the joint opposition in their activities this has been done and it is purely politically affiliated matter.
However barely 24 hours had passed after his arrest he had complained of an illness. He had been admitted to the national hospital Colombo for medical investigations and treatment.
A spokesman for Basil Rajapaksa has added that he needs to be attended to many ailments to be investigated.
