Speculation that Nandalal to be appointed to the main chair at Central Bank
It is not Eran but Nandalal tipped to sit on main chair
After the term of the Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka Arjun Mahendran expires at the end of the month there had erupted talks as to who would
succeed him.
There is speculation that the deputy governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, Nandalal Weersinghe is the most likely successor. This has been speculated among the sources close to the President Maithripala Sirisena.
Although the deputy minister Eran Wickremaratne was tipped to succeed earlier he had himself added that it is not suitable for a politician to accept such a post, although Prime Minister Ranil Wickreasinghe has had in this in mind.
In this context President Maithripala Sirisena wishes to appoint the person in line at the Central Bank of Sri Lanka itself which is the most prudent thing to do.
Accordingly those in line for contention are Professor Nandalal Weerasinghe, Professor Lalith Samaraweera and Dinesh Weerakkody. Among them the most eligible is Professor Nandalal Weerasinghe it is learnt.
Nandalal Weerasinghe has had twenty five years experience at the Central Bank of Sri Lanka and has had the opportunity of representing Sri Lanka as a economic specialist in research and is the Sri Lankan representative as an executive at World Bank.
