Roshan Mahanama's silent donation at Anuradhapura
When most people do some work to get their name in the books, we come to hear of a service rendered by former Sri Lankan Test cricketer Roshan Mahanama, incognito. Mahanama has taken steps to build a school at his own expense for a remote
village in Anuradhapura Padavi and it had been done most secretly.
He did not care to open the school and have cameramen clicking their cameras around to publish photos about the occasion. On photographs taken during a journey made to visit the school by Roshan Mahanama in the company of Chaminda Vas and Upul Chandana those photos were exchanged across the internet which incidentally grabbed our attention.
The said school is supposed to be situated in a remote hamlet in Weheratenna lying in Padavi area in Anuradhapura. It is in fact a Primary School. If not for this school, children in the environment had to make an arduous journey of 14 kms daily to their school. Even the facilities of transport available to travel daily from such a remote village is rare. Mahanama who was heartbroken over this problem donated his personal money for this humanitarian act. As a tribute in this respect the school has been given his name. Some day that a citizen who brings honour to the country as did Mahanama, people would talk more about this school.
