Owing to protests by the public VAT increase in private hospitals removed
Owing to the increase of the VAT component the patients taking treatment from private hospitals have been affected and they had voiced their protest. It was also reported that certain private hospitals bills have been shown and exchanged in several websites. As a result the government
had received brickbats from several quarters.
As a result of these protests the government sources had been forced to remove the VAT component from all payments made to private hospitals.
The cabinet spokesman of the government Minister Rajitha Senaratne had said that in the light of the protests of the general public the government had been forced to remove the VAT component from all bills.
Accordingly VAT charges for channeling, tests, hospital charges and outpatient services all have been removed .
