Minister John comments on vehicle price hike
Because of the taxes imposed as never before, the prices of vehicles in Sri Lanka has gone up these days. While various criticisms have been aimed about this, Minister John Amaratunga has given his
observations on this matter.
At a time he had participated at a discussion at a church in Galewala, Wahakottte and was engaged in a casual discussion with the media he had mentioned that because the 'should be's and the should not be's are using motor vehicles, the price of motor vehicles has been increased. When the press inquired as to why the price of the three-wheeler which is the poor man's vehicle was increased, what he said was that those vehicles were much too many and that there was an incognito request from Three-wheel Associations to increase the price. As such, the government has jacked up the levy of taxes on purpose and had taken measures so that the public are not in a position to buy vehicles, thus it was revealed through his talk.
