Indian naval ships rush to Sri Lanka with relief material
The distressing situation which has taken place because of floods in Sri Lanka by now has become an issue which has come into the focus in an international way. Leaders of a number of countries have expressed concern about the situation and Indian Premier Modi too is among them. 2 ships bringing aid from India have reached Colombo already. This happens to be the very first instance of aid received from an outside country.
India has given a helping hand to Sri Lanka previously too in instances Sri Lanka faced disasters. Previously when President R. Premadasa ordered the Indian Peace-keeping Force to leave the island, though India wanted to bestow aid to destitute soldiers it was declined; but later the Government of India started distributing aid through helicopters.
The Indian Prime Minister has made a comment while sending this stock of aid implying that India would always stand by the Sri Lankan people and therefore is prepared to provide all co-operation.
