Man dies after falling from Aukana Buddha statue!

A person who was trying to complete the restoration of the newly erected Aukana Buddha statue in Matugama area, Kalutara which statue was to be declared opened by President Maithripala Sirisena on forthcoming 23rd had unfortunately fallen from the top of the statue
and died.

The deceased who is supposed to be a local aborigine had been brought there to break some honey combs which had been located somewhere on top of the statue. He had thus fallen while being engaged in removing the honey comb. Since the President was to attend the event just 3 days ahead, this activity was attended to in a hurry. This statue which was erected at a cost of Rs. 90 million was erected by Western PC member Mr. Jagath Pinnagoda Withana. Once this statue towering 135 feet would be erected, the statue would go into record books as the highest standing statue in the whole of Asia.
