A scorching letter from Mahinda

The position of the Electoral Organiser including those who held positions in the Sri Lanka Freedom Party such as Prasanna Ranatunga, Dilum Amunugama, Kanthi Kodikkara, Duminda Silva, Dhanasiri Amaratunga, Senarath Jayasundera was changed and instead bestowed on others yesterday. The

former President Mahinda Rajapaksa had issued a special communique stating that it was done with the conspiracy of the UNP. What he says is that this procedure would result in destroying the Party. The idea he has expressed in this respect is as follows:

"During the period of my regime, I am happy to mention that it was possible to elevate the Sri Lanka Freedom Party to its strongest position in the entire history of our Party. The reason to defeat such a strong government like that was only by resorting to an action taken by a group of those of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party joining hands with the UNP and in launching a campaign of false propaganda and also a vituperative type of protest against my Party. Without securing such support from inside the United National Party they were unable to defeat the Sri Lanka Freedom Party which I developed. Even after my regime was defeated, the incumbent President of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party happens to be the President of the country. Designations on the of the Cabinet too is shared between the United National Party and the Sri Lanka Freedom Party. Even then, it is the United National Party that totally decides the policies of the present government. Thus because the Sri Lanka Freedom Party having become a prisoner of the United National Party it has resulted in a risky situation now where our Party could lose its identity.

Politicians of our Party who are trying to preserve the identity of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party have been called upon to face various problems. The positions of electoral organisers including that of Prasanna Ranatunga, Dilum Amunugama, Kanthi Kodikkara, Duminda Silva, Dhanasiri Amaratunga and Senerath Jayasundera who were from the Sri Lanka Freedom Party have been transferred to some others. Members of Parliament, Prasanna Ranatunga and Dilum Amunugama have carried out a large volume of duties to safeguard the identity of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party, both within the parliament and outside the parliament too. All Parties should think of the point as to on whose necessity that the leadership pf the Party is directed by removing members of parliament from the duties carried out by organisers of electorates.

Members of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party of the government have had to remain silent when MPs of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party who are anti-government and have been appointed in parliament on an anti United National Party policy when being labelled as robbers and murderers and are being dragged to the Police Investigation Unit, various commissions and to numerous courts. It is very clear that this is a conspiracy launched by the United National Party to totally destroy the Sri Lanka Freedom Party. The time has dawned for voters of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party to think as to whether it is the government led by a regime of the United National Party who are more important or all MPs of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party in the government or else the representatives whom these voters have elected on the basis of anti-government and anti United National Party elements.

What most supporters anticipated when President Maithripala Sirisena took over the leadership of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party was that though he became President with votes of the United National Party after taking on the responsibility of the leadership of the Party he would safeguard the supporters, the policy of the Party as well as its identity. However we are sorry to note that we are unable to see any such thing".
