The 'Jana Satana' joint rally of the Joint Opposition began at Colombo, Ibbanwala Junction, Hyde Park a short while ago. Kumara Welgama, Mahindananda Aluthgamage, Pavithra Wanniaarachchi, C.B. Ratnayaka, G.L. Pieris, Bandula Gunawardena, Dalas Alahapperuma, Gamini Lokuge, Rohitha Abeygoonawardena, Keheliya Rambukwella and S.M. Chandrasena and other MPs of the SLFP

joined in this rally, ignoring the taboo imposed by the General Secretary of the party.

In the same way, Dinesh Gunawardena, leader of the Mahajana Eksath Peramuna and Udaya Gammanpila, Chief Secreatary of Pivithuru Hela Urumaya had participated while Basil Rajapaksa too had made his presence there, it was reported. Former leader of Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna, Somavansha Amarasingha too had got on stage. Several artistes also were present here and it was singer Neela Wickramasingha who addressed the audience. 

Though the party General Secretary had informed in writing that if MPs of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party had been present at the rally, that disciplinary action would be taken; further MPs were expected to participate, it was reported. As a result of the Joint Opposition rally, there has been a traffic congestion on roads around Colombo -- Town Hall. Former President Mr. Mahinda Rajapaksa too is expected to attend this Opposition rally organised by the Joint Opposition. The live YouTube broadcast of the rally, from below
