Kidney of dead pregnant woman removed on the sly ....

and sent to private hospital!

Many revelations were reported sometime back about the kidney racket that is being done by doctors in association with private hospitals in Sri Lanka. What is now reported are incidents which spotlight the hideous and dangerous side of transplanting kidneys for financial gain and selling
kidneys of dead persons on the sly! The latest revelation in this connection is that the kidney of a pregnant mother of four months who was dead last August on admission to a leading government women's hospital was illegally removed and had been sent to a leading private hospital in Colombo for a kidney transplant surgery.

Consultant doctors state that her four-month old foetus had been removed by a Ceasarian operation by the team of doctors concerned and then they had removed the conceived mother's kidney illegally. The consultant doctors point out that this particular incident could have some relationship to the illegal kidney transplant racket which is supposed to have taken place between Sri Lanka and India, reported in recent times. They complain that even under those circumstances there has still no formal investigation had been carried out in that respect. Though it has been complained to the police about this incident, so far no investigation has been launched in that connection, they reiterate. The said pregnant woman was found already dead when admitted to the women's hospital and a Ceasarian operation had been performed on her and the foetus had been removed after which one of her kidneys too was removed without even relatives of her family being informed, it was learned. After coming to know about all this, even having informed the incident to police across the hospital, doctors of the women's hospital mention that a formal investigation has still not been launched, which they remark has posed a question to them.
