The Speaker is to decide and announce today the 09th instant whether the 52 members of the united opposition could be allowed to sit as an
independent group in the house.

The member of parliament for the United Peoples Freedom Party of Ratnapura district Ranjith Soysa had  a few days ago had made inquiries from the Speaker the possibility of this group to sit under the name of a new party.

In this connection it is the hope of Ranjith Soysa and the rest in the united opposition that  the Speaker without taking any side would use his good office to deliver a suitable decision.

Ranjith Soysa has added further that the 52 members in the joint opposition are prepared to sit in the parliament as an independent group.
