Driver who thought that the death of woman who was struck
by lorry would be an issue ....
hides corpse in jungle and flees!
The driver and his helper who thought that the woman who sustained serious injuries after
having been struck by their lorry would ultimately pass away had then dumped the woman's dead body in a jungle and had made a getaway, it was reported from Kotadeniyawa.
The said incident had occured along Dankotuwa - Pannala route in Pannala Police area. A woman who was trying to cross the road was struck by a Dimo Batta lorry plying along that road and the victim had sustained serious and fatal injuries as a result. It was the driver and his helper who had initially got close to her immediately for just a moment after the accident and on noticing the serious harm she had been subjected to, had made a retreat in the lorry before the crowd gathered there. On that occasion some neighbours had spent some time there observing the accident. The two of them who perhaps were overtaken by shock had then turned back the lorry and having come to the spot of the accident after about 10 minutes had raised the victim into the lorry most probably thinking that if the victim's body was lying there would be an issue because of those who had identified the vehicle, had said, "We're taking her to the hospital".
In the process a particular neighbour who had taken down the number of the lorry had provided information to the police. Later though the police had checked the information across the hospital, they were unable to find any information as such relating to a woman being admitted to the hospital in the stated manner.
In the meantime, via another piece of information received by the police, it was about a dead body lying in a jungle area on a by-road in Kotadeniyaya. The police who investigated this were able to identify that that corpse was of the woman who was struck by the lorry. The person who supplied the information to the police was able to identify the body. The driver and his helper had in fact tried to throw the dead body to an unknown location in order to escape problems connected to the accident.
The Dimo lorry which was responsible for this tragic accident which happened around 5.30 in the morning last 06th and whose occupants had fled was followed by Pannala Police across the number supplied to them and inquiries are underway in that respect. The suspected lorry has later been found in Ambagahahena, Pannala while the driver and helper is presently in hiding.
The police were able to find that the dead victim is a 44 year old woman by the name of Vaijayanthi Mala of Ridigama area in Udahrombuwa. The police are continuing their operations to get at the suspects.
