Warakapola bus-van accident

Five persons died early this morning at about 4.30 when a van and a bus collided with each
other. The van which was knocked on its side sustained serious damage and among the dead are 3 females, a toddler aged about 2 years and the driver of the van. Hospital sources report that there are 4 others in a serious condition. The four of them are under treatment at the Intensive Care Unit of the Basic Teaching Hospital in Kegalle by now.

The victims are those who were proceeding towards from Samanthurai to Colombo in the van concerned for the purpose of getting their foreign passports while a crowd of people in the bus were heading towards Somawathi, Polonnaruwa and met with this accident.

There had been 17 inside the van when the tragedy took place and all 5 who died were those who travelled in that van, it was reported. Apart from them, the rest of the other 12 persons at present had been admitted to hospital after having been injured in the accident, it was reported. Four of them are supposed to be in a serious condition. Warakapola Police are conducting investigations regarding the incident.
