Third Party Insurance of vehicles  to be changed by Nimal Siripala

Taking into consideration the  increase in the number of road accidents the Minister of transport and civil aviation services Nimal Siripala de Silva in consultation with the related insurance companies
hopes to enact new laws to enable those affected in accidents having third part insurance to obtain some redress.

The Minister also had added that a new system would be brought in at the time the driving licence is issued. For the new drivers who's driving is found to be prone to accidents would be penalised via a new technology to be brought in.

It was stated that in order to minimise road accidents all old vehicles should be removed from our roads. The speed limits of the vehicles should be controlled by the police personnel. All methods adopted by the world health organisation and other organisations in this regard should be emulated by Sri Lanka using the same technology to  our platforms. The Minister had said this while addressing a meeting on this subject held at the New Town hall premises. He had added when the roads were given a facelift with more vehicles plying on them the accidents too have increased.

The Minister also added that by just changing the existing rules the number of accidents could not be reduced. But all drivers should change their attitudes and the  pedestrians also should contribute to this matter to reduce road accidents.
