As a result of a conflict which broke out yesterday (27) around 3.30 in the afternoon between two parties close to Sakya, a popular tuition institute in Kohuwala town, even passers-by on the road felt inconvenienced. Even the police had to intervene to settle the conflict in which stones were thrown around with students yelling in the process.

Because of this fracas some young people were injured and when the police arrived on the scene they had fled with the injuries itself. Three students have been taken into police custody in connection with this fight. The reason for this incident was an argument which flared because of a love affair. Even prior to this a conflict between two factions of students studying at this private tuition institute had taken place and on that occasion too several of them had suffered injuries, police said. Though there are some more suspect- students involved with this incident, since they had beat a retreat, steps are being taken to arrest them, police say. Parents of the students taken into custody were summoned to the police and after being severely warned the arrested students were released last night.

Further investigations are being carried out by Police Inspector Kariyawansha and a team of officers under the instructions of Police Inspector and Officer-in-Charge of Kohuwala Police, Mr. Chaminda Edirisuriya in this connection.
