The other day the popular dance academy duo Channa Wifewardena and Upuli Paneebaratha were summoned to take a statement to the Presidential commission of Inquiry to investigate
and inquire into serious acts of fraud & corruption and abuse of power, state resources & privilege (PRECIFAC) for accepting payment of rupees sixteen million for the dance items for the opening ceremony of the new port in Hambantota as stated by certain media.
In this connection the duo had issues a media notice with the signatures of both of them today the 25th instant.They have prompted to issue this media notice as some media institutions and websites had mentioned to the public that a sum of rupees sixteen million was charged by them.But the actual amount that was received had been only rupees sixty eight lakhs.They had informed via this media notice that the amount of rupees sixteen million as stated by some media institutions is fake.The correct amount was Rs 6888125/-( Rupees sixty eight lakhs eighty eight thousand one hundred and twenty five only).
The duo had stated that this charge was for about 200 artistes and it was for various expenses.The duo also had added that as it was a national event they had waived off some other expenses and for them a rebate had been offered.
