I don't want District Committee Chairmanship ....
-- Mahinda had said
What was published as an item of
news across several media yesterday
and day-before-yesterday was that
the government is pondering
of
bestowing former President and
present Kurunegala District MP
Mahinda Rajapaksa a post akin to a
Cabinet Minister.
It was said in those reports that
fulfilling a promise given at the
General Election, the District Co-
ordinating Committee System has
been adopted and according to the
ratio of victories in 22 districts and
since 14 posts of Chairman to the
UNP and 11 to the SLFP are to be
acquired, Mr. Mahinda Rajapaksa is
to be appointed as the Chairman of
Kurunegala District Co-ordinating
Committee. It was also understood
that in such a case powers similar to
a Cabinet Minister as well as
facilities too could be enjoyed under
these circumstances.
Whatever it is, former President
Mahinda Rajapaksa speaking to the
Lankadeepa Newspaper yesterday
had mentioned that such a thing has
not been informed to him. He had
also stated that even if he was
informed about such a thing he is not
prepared to accept such a post.
