Confession of 'kondaya' ....

who murdered Seya Sandewmi

Dunesh Priyashantha alias Kondaya who was the cursed criminal who raped and killed Seya Sandewmi of Kotadeniyawa exposed and explained the crime he
committed word by word yesterday in the presence of the CID. This is how he spoke about it.

"I was going to my akka's house in the night. By that time there were lights in that house. I opened the window and had a peep. Then that child and her two brothers and their mother were sleeping together. I tried to jump out of the window and since I got scared I went towards the front of the house. After going I looked whether the front door was opened. By that time the door was left open. I went to the room through the house. I tried to take the child who was sleeping cuddled to the mother, into my arms. What I tried to do was take her under-garments away and rape her then and there. As I was hiding the under-garments so taken off and was hiding them under the mattress, she started to shout 'amme .... amme!' Because the child was struggling in her sleep I closed her face and mouth tightly. Though the mother was in the house, she didn't hear. These things I am used to. I carried the child and came out. While going like that the child woke up again at once. Waking up like that she once again started struggling. I took the banian and tightened the child's neck. After that the child didn't struggle. I thought she died. So it was like that that I took her to the jungle and raped her. When I was raping her the child suddenly got up. Then I put the belt round her neck and tightened as much as possible. Then the child died. After she died I put her into the forest and without going to my sister's I went to the Gampaha house.

The following day I told our elder brother also. The next day morning my elder brother asked, "why are you frightened?" I didn't say anything. When my brother asked several times I said, "it was I who put the child into the lake after raping her .... if you tell anybody about this ... I'll kill you!" After saying that I waited for a while at my mother's. After that the police came there. It was after that that I thought of running away from that house. I slept in various places in the nights.

It was the suspect's brother who was first of all taken into custody by the CID. They were able to get to the root of this crime when interrogating him. As a result the police were able to get his brother into custody. The suspect who was so arrested had been suffering from a mental condition known as voyeurism where he would go near houses throughout the night and carefully observe how women are sleeping on their beds which he used to enjoy as a pastime for a period of time, which in fact was revealed during interrogation. It is understood that he was someone who was suffering from distorted desires from incidents where he had raped a buried body of a young girl after exhuming the body, forcibly trying to embrace women and assaulting people which are the allegations against him of various acts of delinquency, the police say.

The suspect has been directed to a DNA examination.
