TELEPHONE CALLS COME ....
ASKING, 'DIDN'T YOU LICK JVP FOR NGO MONEY?'
THOUGH I WENT BECAUSE OF MY CONSCIENCE .... I AM NOT A JVP
- ROSHAN PILAPITIYA
Teledrama actor Roshan Pilapitiya was among the crowd of artistes who held a news briefing
requesting votes for Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna by 'wakening the conscience', some days ago.
The telephone calls received by Roshan two or three days after that media briefing from friends and associates were quite unwelcome. He had been receiving telephone calls incessantly and what was inquired from those calls was "didn't you go 'kade' to JVP for NGO money?" What tele-actor Roshan Pilapitiya who contacted Gossip Lanka said was that this misunderstanding should be corrected and that he is not a JVPer. This is how he spoke about it to us: "I am not a person who has expressed a vote for the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna, ever. That day I joined that media briefing for the sake of the progress of the Arts. Bimal Ratnayaka of Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna explained to us that they would plan out a national policy on behalf of the enhancement of the Arts and bring it out in parliament. That's why we went to talk on their behalf that day. But the situation that arose after I appeared in this manner was terribly pungent. I got calls in a row. What most of them asked was why I go 'kade' to the JVP for NGO money. It's a misunderstanding. I faced several problems which cropped up within the field of Arts as a producer, in the past. I strived to find solutions for these. Mrs. Malini Fonseka is able to stand evidence in this connection. There were no solutions for those by the past governments. There's no faith that a solution would be forthcoming either. That's why I tried to solicit for a vote for Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna for the enhancement of the Arts. But those who aim accusations don't understand it".
