Not a single Bikkhu elected to this parliament

In the general election 2015 the most number of Buddhist monks have been candidates. A number
or 150 Bikkhu monks have participated as candidates. This is the highest number of Buddhist monks who had participated in any general election from the inception of the parliamentary elections.

However not a single Buddhist monk had been able to enter the parliament.

Among those were a number of Bikkhus who had contested from the Bodu Bala Peramuna party from the Bodu Bala Sena organisation and challenged that they will win 10 seats but had not been able to secure a single seat.

But Venerable Athureliye Rathana thera has been nominated in the National list and it is highly likely thet the there would be elected to the parliament from the National list.
