MAHINDA'S ASTOUNDING DOCUMENTS EMERGE ....
WHEN PREPARING EXPENDITURE FOR PRESIDENT MAITHRIPALA'S SEPTEMBER UN ASSEMBLY
President Maithripala Sirisena is scheduled to
address the United Nation's General Assembly to be held in New York, America next September 30th to represent Sri Lanka.
Relevant lodging facilities and travelling expenditure for the purpose by the Foreign Ministry is being planned out these days and while such preparations are being prepared, a bundle of bills related to expenditure incurred on the former President's tour to New York to address this General Assembly was accidentally discovered. The Sunday Times newspaper had reported this bundle of documents had been examined with enormous surprise. As mentioned therein a sum of Rs. 160 lakhs has been expended for accommodation in a luxury five star hotel in America for former President Mahinda Rajapaksa and members of his family. Apart from this, an expense of something like 47 lakhs has been spent over Ministers and security personnel who accompanied them. They had even spent a sum close upon Rs. 32 lakhs to hire American professional photographers to prepare a special photo album during their 14 day tour. Apart from this tour, invoices amounting to Rs. 473 lakhs as the total value for the tour which included hiring charges for vehicles, mobile phones, outside food and meals et cetera were discovered inside the Foreign Ministry. It was mentioned there that this was all related to public funds.
When considering all this expenditure and since much of these expenses were thought as a waste, instructions have been issued for the tour of President Maithripala this September with the least expenses to be incurred.
