WILL GAMPAHA ALLIANCE BE CANCELLED .....

BECAUSE OF AN IRC?

Since a registered criminal has been included in the UPFA list to appear for Gampaha District for the

General Election, Minister Mr. John Amaratunga said at Siri Kotha Party Headquarters yesterday (23) in the presence of the media that there is a possibility that the list could be invalidated.

The Minister pointed out mentioning that the said person had been registered under document 895/14 on 27th November in 2014 and that after forwarding information about him in the next few days to the Supreme Courts his lawyers are taking steps to obtain a writ in this connection.

Since according to election rules a registered criminal in the island is not permitted to contest at an election, the Gampaha District United People's Freedom Alliance runs the risk of their nomination list being cancelled. The said individual has been found guilty of attempting to prepare false documents and also in relation to financial transactions and has been registered on those grounds after which subsequent to a verdict of courts it had been withdrawn. However, the same person had got caught a second time for a similar offence and had been once again registered, the Minister finally said.
