Susil Premajayanth and Basil and the crowd had launched a plan which has paved the way for the former President Mahinda Rajapaksa to secure nominations from the UPFA and by now it is reported

that in whatever manner the Maithri faction accepts it, proceedings could be faced in the future, and the said decision has now been exposed. As a result of the majority of executive councillors comprise the group supporting Mahinda Rajapaksa, Mahinda has been able to acquire the authority and power of the UPFA which now is unavoidable and it is said that the only option for the Maithri faction is to break away from that group and contest separately.

Decisive discussions are still going on in this connection and under these circumstances the UPFA has considered the chief Party the SLFP contesting as a separate Party from the symbol of the 'Hand'. As such, political sources reveal information that Maithripala Sirisena and the Chandrika-supporters who contributed towards the change brought about on January 8th are hoping to contest from the SLFP while the Mahinda-supporting segment of the SLFP crowd and the rest of the the Parties are to contest from the UPFA.

It was understood that after the UPFA by now had come under the grip of Mahinda, the crowd who had been condemned as a group who were involved in fraud and corruption have managed to get nominations without any problem. Under these circumstances it is assumed that those who have made a decision to abandon the SLFP these days and crossover to the UNP under the basis of refusing to join the 'blemished' group and because of other personal reasons entertaining misunderstandings with Mahinda are expected to join hands with the SLFP, aspiring for an untainted SLFP. 

In the meantime, it is reported from the Maithri faction that a decision would be taken in the next few days in relation to Anura Priyadarshana and Susil Premajayanth who are at present holding responsible positions in the SLFP. In the same way, it is also understood that the SLFP possess the power to prevent the UPFA  being bestowed nominations for the elections and thus avert them contesting by enforcing legal procedures according to the agreements already effected even if the decision of the UPFA were to separate themselves from the SLFP. The Mahinda faction has put into action 'Plan B' by grabbing the authority of the UPFA while courting this very risk. According to this argument, political sources say that the SLFP has planned to take legal action.
