SERVANT WOMAN BEATEN IN HOUSE BY SUPREME COURT JUDGE ....
LODGES COMPLAINT WITH POLICE IN MIDNIGHT
The police have launched an investigation into
an incident where a woman serving in the house of a well-known Supreme Court Judge, Sarath de Abrew had been assaulted.
Nilusha Damaanthi the 37 year old woman servant who has allegedly been assaulted has come to Mount Lavinia Police around 12.15 on 27th night complaining that she was no more able to bear up the harassment she undergoes as a result of which information the incident was exposed. What she had said was that she has come for service at this Judge's residence last 15th as a woman servant and since then she was not allowed to step out of the house and had been made to remain inside and that she had to face several incidents of harassment. She had further stated in her complaint that although there were no matters of blame on her hands, on many occasions she had been beaten by the Judge continuously and having been beaten with a pistol, some lumps have appeared on her head. She had also said that there is a mentally retarded female girl in the house and that when the girl resorted to assaulting her mercilessly, the Judge had used to keep watching laughing.
After the complaint was recorded, she was admitted to Kalubowila Hospital with the Judicial Medical Examination form and had informed Magistrate's Court, Mt. Lavinia. Presently she is under treatment at Ward 11 of Kalubowila Hospital. The Judge who had come several times to the hospital after she was admitted had according to police tried to remove the patient from hospital by using his powers as a Judge. Under such circumstances on the instructions of the Judicial Medical Officer two women constables have been posted for the protection of the woman while the Judge has been prohibited from meeting her.
The police had by now obtained a statement from a civil security officer on duty at the house of the Judge while a statement has been recorded yesterday (29) from another woman servant also in the house,the Police Media Spokesman mentioned.
This Judge had on a number of occasions been complained against previously too of having made similar assaults, police say. During last year alone, police say that 4 cases of similar assault was reported and the victims were another woman servant as the complainant and 3 police officers. On this information provided by Mr. Ruwan Gunasekera, Police Media Spokesman, Assistant Police Superintendent, Attorney-at-Law, this Judge had assaulted a police constable in the year 2012. After that complaint was forwarded to courts it was settled after both parties arrived at a compromise. Subsequently, in the year 2014 he had assaulted a security officer of a private security unit. Then in March in the year 2015 the said Judge had assaulted another woman servant working in the same house. She too had lodged an entry with the police regarding the assault; later had withdrawn the complaint, the Police Media Spokesman said.
The Police Media Spokesman mentioned that a statement would be recorded from the Judge concerned in a day or two in respect of the incident reported day-before-yesterday. Mt. Lavinia Police are conducting further inquiries.
