Three students drowned in river who had gone to swim saying they were to attend tuition classes
Three students of Tissa National School in Kalutara
had gone to swim in ‘Kalu ganga’ saying they were going to attend private tuition classes.This had happened the day before yesterday the 13th instant.
They had gone to bathe near the Kalutara Duwegoda area ‘Kalu Ganga’ river.The dead bodies had been found ‘Gale’ Estuary. The two of the dead are from Kalutara ‘Vile Ikili Kandawatta’ Lindawalage Sathira Ramesh de Silva a 18 years old and Anjula Upendra Soysa a 17 year old and Bethge Mudiyanselage Buddhika Eranda a 17 year ld from Kalutara North. All are students of the Tissa National School.
The neighbours had seen a motor cycle, bags of books and clothes near the bank of the river for a while. They had on suspicion informed the police emergency unit.
The Police emergency unit had brought this to the attention of the Kalutara North police station. The acting officer in charge Sub Inspector of Police,Sanjeewa Wijeweera and his team had searched from the river bank and along the river.
The police with the help of life savers, divers and navy personnel had located the bodies from the deep areas in the river close to the ‘Gale’ estuary. The life savers had tried to give artificial respiration but had been of no avail. All three students were admitted to the Nagoda hospital taken by the police jeep. Two were found dead on admission. The other student after admission to the intensive care unit also had died.
