Mahindananda to FCID for misappropriation of funds from school children’s carom boards
A complaint had been lodged against the former Minister of Sports Mahindananda Aluthgamage
against his misappropriating huge sums of money on the pretext of importing carom boards and ‘daam’ boards for school children.
The complaint had been made to the police and accordingly he had been summoned to the financial crimes investigation unit yesterday the 22nd to record a statement. He had been questioned and a statement recorded for a period of nearly four hours.
During the previous government Mahindananda Aluthgamage while serving as the Minister of sports had allocated a huge sum of money for importation of carom and ‘daam’ boards. But he had not used the money allocated for that purpose of importation of such sports items via Sathosa.
The officers of the financial crimes investigation unit had questioned the related personnel of the Sathosa and the Ministry of sports. The former Minister had been questioned from 9 am to around 12 pm.
The officers of the FCID had revealed that only a quantity of 500 carom boards had been supplied to a trade union office of the Colombo port by importing them.
