A father of 3 children of Panagoda Meegasmulla area had been assaulted by Indika Koralage, Deputy Chairman of provincial council,
Homagama and is presently been admitted to hospital with injuries.
This incident has occured when a son of the Deputy Chairman studying in the 8th class had together with a brother of his had gone to a garden containing grass suitable for a structure which was being made in the form of Mihintale on behalf of the Poson Poya on which occasion this father of 3 children, Shantha Jayasuriya by name had shouted at them with regard to cutting the grass without permission. The deputy chairman had then taken steps to inform the police that his children have been harassed and when this father of 3 children had been giving a statement the said deputy chairman had arrived there in a vehicle and had chopped him with a sword which had been hidden on his waist. As a result of the assault he had sustained serious injuries on his head and an arm. Presently the injured is undergoing treatment at Homagama Basic Hospital.
It is reported that the deputy chairman who is wanted in connection with the incident by the police had surrendered to Athurugiriya Police this morning. Later, after being produced before magistrate's court, Homagama he was released on a bail of Rs. 1 lakh.
