Addressing a meeting in Paiyagala yesterday President Maithripala Sirisena had reiterated that the
provincial and local government elections would be held after the completion of the general election which would be conducted under the same preferential vote’s system as previously

He had said that all local government bodies, Municipal councils, Pradeshiya Sabas would be dissolved on the 15th of this month where the terms of governance have expired.. All positions held in these institutions whose periods have lapsed would be deemed null and void. For administration activities special commissioners are to be appointed which would be for a short period. The election of the new office bearers would be made on an election which would be conducted in the new electoral system.

The president also had emphasised that the general election will not be held on the basis of electoral reforms and would be made under the same preferential voted system.
