How a group of MPs put up the night in the middle of parliament ....

without going home (photos)

The parliament became a place of agitation yesterday because of a protest made by a group of
members of parliament over ex-President Mahinda Rajapaksa being summoned to the Bribery and Corruption Investigation Committee.

From about 10 in the morning yesterday until night a section of these MPs without moving out of the parliament had instead engaged in a continuous satyagraha and their argument was that since the former President had never resorted to any bribery or corruption and was a 'clean' character and that he had been called to the Bribery Commission to sling mud at him.

The Bribery Commission is not an institution attached to the government or the parliament and is an independent commission. What they said was that the head of the Bribery Commission has some affinity to Ranil's wife and that Mahinda is being called there with the influence of the government under this situation.
