For new electoral reforms a senior SLFP Minister to address cabinet

The new electoral reforms amendment proposal
is to be tabled at the Cabinet meeting today the 22nd instant and the proposal is to be presented by a senior SLFP Minister for approval.

This proposal is to elect 250 members to parliament. Out of which the majority of 165 would be from the individual electorates. 66 members would be on a district basis while the rest 19 from the National List.

Once this proposal is approved by the cabinet it will be made into the 20th amendment and should be passed in parliament. For this new proposal almost all parties including minority parties have consented.
