Special meetings had been arranged today at Kalutara and Gampaha areas on the understanding

that it is for SLFP parliamentarians who helped former President Mahinda Rajapaksa at last elections. Public representatives inclusive of Sri Lanka Freedom Party supporters of Kalutara District got together at one meeting while about 140 local councillors of Kalutara District too attended the meeting  according to reports. 

What all of them had requested the ex-President was for him to contest from any political Party and contest from the Peramuna. A group of Gampaha District councillors of the Alliance (Sandanaya) has met former President this afternoon. It was learned that 191 parliamentarians from a number of 223 had been present there. They had said that they would dedicate themselves with their life on behalf of Rajapaksa. Former President who addressed the supporters in their presence had said that he has a right to appear before 58 lakhs of the public and that nobody can stop him from engaging in politics.

In the meantime, political sources reveal that an outstanding majority of councillors of the Colombo District has approved a proposal that Mr. Mahinda Rajapaksa should be made the Prime Minister candidate at the forthcoming general election. Also that this proposal has been adopted by 106 of the 131 SLFP councillors of Colombo District.
