Aged sisters who lived alone in upstairs house by Galle Road die mysteriously!
Younger brother who visits house, discovers bodies in skeleton-form!
A mysterious incident where two dead bodies in skeleton-form of two aged sisters who were
spinsters living in an upstairs house by the side of Galle Road in Uyankelle, Panadura were found after seven or eight months after their death, completely dissolved, it was reported day before yesterday evening.
Padma Fernando (72) and Mallika Fernando (70) two unmarried sisters had been living in this house alone and since they were not on good terms with relatives and their brothers they have had no connection with them. Dickman Fernando, a younger brother of theirs had gone to their house after a long time day before yesterday and as the front door was locked he had inquired from the neighbors and they had told that they were unaware of the sisters because they do not go out much but had noticed that the back door was opened ajar. As such, when opening that door and on going inside it was noted that there was nobody inside. On further investigation, skulls and some bones were found inside a room. The brother suspected that the two skeletons were that of his sisters because they were the only inhabitants there. On further checking up it was noticed that a robber had entered the house from the signs that the almirahs in the house had been tampered with. After the brother went to the police and lodged an entry, investigations resumed.
On primary investigations conducted by the police it was revealed that the deaths had occurred 7 or 8 months before. The deceased Padma Fernando (72) and Mallika Fernando (70) had never entered into marriage. Padma alone had been employed and she had been a nurse. The brother had stated that they had lived on the pension she received. The police mentioned that it is suspicious that nobody knew about these deaths until the arrival of this brother. Whether they had died a natural death or these skeletons were discovered after the two of them were murdered by someone, still remains a mystery.
It was possible to detect that there was a super-market adjoining this house and a house on the other side. It is a puzzle as to how the severe foul odour emanating from the bodies when they were deteriorating was not sensed by the others which by itself is a mystery.
After the house was inspected by the magistrate, as the deaths are suspicious, the two skulls and bones have been directed for judicial medical examination. Panadura South Police are conducting further investigations.
