I am being isolated from within and without!
former President's latest communication
Though former President Mahinda Rajapaksa was expected to be present at the SLFP Executive Committee meeting last Saturday held in Battaramulla, he did not turn up. However, political sources say that he had woven a fib saying that that ' ... because of a number of activities that
could not be cancelled' and that he had a number of reasons to avoid it. Though he was not present, he had forwarded a lengthy letter to show the reasons but reveals the dejection he entertains about the SLFP. He had mentioned there that he is able to bear up the insults, humiliation and isolation he is made to face and that he sends his greetings to the new leadership. The full text of the letter forwarded by Mr. Mahinda Rajapaksa, from below.
11.02.2015
Hon. Mr. Anura Yapa Priyadarshana,
Gen. Secretary,
Sri Lanka Freedom Party,
301, T.B.Jayah Mawatha,
Colombo 10.
Dear General Secretary,
Executive Committee meeting.
(At Ape Gama Parishraya at 2.00 p.m. on February 14, 2015)
With regard to the long letter of 29.01.2015 sent to me under the above-heading.
Initially I wish to thank you for inviting me to attend the Executive Committee meeting scheduled to be held at the Battaramulla Ape Gama Parishraya at 2.00 p.m. on February 14, 2015. But since I had to stay back in Hambantota for some essential activities am extremely sorry for not being able to participate in this connection. Therefore, I would be very kind to you if you would convey my message of greetings on this occasion as shown below.
I send my good wishes to the Executive Committee and All Island Executive Committee of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party with immense pride for which I have dedicated my entire political career for a span of 47 years. The Sri Lanka Freedom Party which was established at that time in 1951 by Mr. S.W.R.D. Bandaranaike together with my father with leaders of that time was a party which won the co-operation and respect of a large power of the masses and various progressive parties. Our Party was able to provide leadership to establish governments which provided a decisive service on a number of occasions in the political history from 1951 upto now.
I remember here about the possibility of bringing peace to Sri Lanka as a result of the most cruel terrorist activities which went on for 30 years and being able to establish a government with a majority of 2/3 power, for the pride of supporters of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party. Our Sri Lanka freedom Party which was of such stability weakened in instances when the harmony broke down. When the massive public foundation and the faith of the common masses which Sri Lanka Freedom party possessed could not be broken, we should understand through the experiences how the Party was made to deteriorate by sowing conflicts by small groups and sections.
Incidents where a group left the Party to topple Mrs. Sirimavo Bandaranaike's government in 1964, a group breaking away from the Party in 1975, disabling the Party in 1984 and a group leaving the Sri Lanka Freedom Party in 2001 contributed towards the defeat of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party today.
Whatever it is, those who temporarily left our Party joining our Party once again is no new experience to us. It is our responsibility to utilise it to develop the strength of our Party.
When I accepted to give leadership to the Sri Lanka Freedom Party, I always dedicated myself towards the progress of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party by increasing the number of our membership in parliament. Lessons of a host of absolutely difficult instances where it was possible to strengthen Sri Lanka Freedom Party are recorded in the history of the Party. I was able to make the Party stand upright at a time by launching Pada Yathra, the voice of the masses and public protests during the rule of the United National Party who subjected our supporters to sheer terror and suppression. The Sri Lanka Freedom Party ought today realise that strength.
We should protect all political leaders of the North and East who dismissed ideas of separatism. In the same way, it is the responsibility of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party to protect all political parties and groups who had joined hands with us.
For the very sake of involving in politics, the Sri Lanka Freedom Party should stand on behalf of their protection in the presence of threats and suppression against our Party and its supporters. I believe that
just as much as undertaking the responsibility of the protection of Mr. Maithreepala Sirisena who assumed the present leadership of Sri Lanka Freedom Party, all those who provide support to that leadership, the Party and the supporters needs be safeguarded, I fervently believe.
I who am used to bearing up the pressure of the world's greatest terrorists and international conspirators have the strength to bear the degradation, insults, and condemnation aimed at me from within and without.
I promise in this instance on behalf of the Party and the supporters that I would never ever leave the Sri Lanka Freedom Party and its supporters under any condition. I further mention that I dedicate myself even now to what is expected of me to the Party and not what I get from the Party. We should be victorious in the future too. It should be done on behalf of the Party as well as the country. I wish to mention with happiness to all of you that I am ready to fulfill the duties expected of me.
I make this an opportunity to offer my greetings to leadership of the new Party!
A prosperous future to all of you.
Blessings of the Triple Gem!
