Because of the Presidential Elections several local astrologers have accepted the risk of committing suicide.

One such person was Chandrasiri Bandara who visited Sirasa Channel and remarked that he would commit suicide if Mahinda loses while another astrologer

Mapalagama Wimalaratna has now made a statement across Rupavahini Channel.

He made this risky challenge last weekend across Silumina Newspaper.

Without any particular reason, an unknown person yesterday (5) set himself on fire opposite Vihara Maha Devi Park saying that Maithree would be victorious. However he passed away today. It is a pathetic fact that local politics has declined so far as for a person to take one's life because of a victory or defeat in an election.

This is how astrologer Mapalagama Wimalaratna had written giving his reasons to commit suicide if Mahinda loses: "the swan is a very innocent bird and is not a strong symbol suitable for a contest and the betel leaf being a strong symbol at first glance itself, the favourable and unfavourable situation could be assessed. The betel leaf is a symbol which shows enormous strength displaying fertility in Eastern culture in the world. When considering the animal Elephant taken as a symbol, we know how powerful its political leader reached great heights, when taking it as a symbol in the past. The swan is a weak animal which even at a moment of a minor incident would bend down its head and goes under water.  

According to Mr. Mahinda's horoscope, he is now traversing through the 'anthar dashawa' of Mercury in the 'maha dashawa' of Jupiter. Jupiter which is in 'dig balaya' in his zodiacal sign at birth destroying myriads of 'dosha' has bestowed intelligence, power over the masses and attraction from the gods while Rahu which occupies the 10th house has favoured him with victory and has given him the opportunity of enjoying State power until his death. The most powerful conjunction in the President's horoscope is 'Chandra Adhi yogaya'. It has granted him with mental power to face any problem with adroit cleverness. 

According to Maithreepala's horoscope, he is presently undergoing the 'athuru dashawa' of Ravi of the 'maha dashawa' of Saturn. Maithreepala is presently spending this period of 'lagna eraashtakaya'. As Mars is a malefic planet which represents the common masses, Mathreepala will not get the attraction of God Kataragama. The planet Saturn which represents the common masses becomes Maithreepala's most unlucky planet because Saturn happens to be his second 'derkaanadhipathi'. Since there is a rumour spreading around the public that an agreement has been signed to unite the North and East districts which were won over by the war while in turn it results in the public backing out from giving support to Maithreepala.
