Gemunu accepts that bus-conductors rob the balance one rupee!

It is a well-known fact that when a passenger gives Rs. 10 for a fare of Rs. 9, the balance one rupee is not given. The helpless commuter then hangs his
head down and refrains from arguing which is a daily occurence.

President of Lanka Private Bus Owners' Association Gemunu Wijeratna yesterday said that here onwards according to the present situation the minimum fare of Rs. 9, according to the new revision, it could be changed into Rs. 8 and thus when Rs. 10 is given, as the balance Rs. 2 is available, without any 'game' being played on the commuter, the conductor has no opportunity of keeping back the balance one rupee and would be able to pay back the balance in coins.

As such, he has publicly admitted that he is aware that the balance one rupee is unjustifiably withheld by the conductor daily and that he has done nothing about it.
