The child who died in this accident is Sajina who was 4 years old.
The child in question is not a resident of this housing complex and her relatives living in Wattala, Mabole are are supposed to be living on the 11th floor of this flat. She had come to the house of her mother's sister (by relationship) and that was about 2 days before. In this housing complex is a children's park prepared on a flat-levelled ground on the 2nd floor which has a protrusion..
A few hours before this accident happened, deceased Sajina had in the company of her elder cousin and the mother had gone from the 11th floor to the 2nd floor with her toys with the intention of playing. This is to be been even in the CCTV camera footage obtained within the lift. The child had once again travelled in the lift alone with her elder cousin sister upto another floor above because the latter had said that she wanted to drink some water, a short time before the incident. During that time since the mother had been breast-feeding her child the mother had not accompanied them. They had then travelled to a top floor to have a drink of water; and because it was easy to get into the lift once again, the elder girl had instructed the deceased Sajina to keep pressing the button in the lift until she returned. As such she was left alone inside the lift until she returned. When Sajina was keeping the button pressed, by some chance the lift instead of remaining in one place had taken her up towards another floor above, as seen in the CCTV footage.
Subsequently, it is to be observed that the lift had travelled to a floor above from that point and that Sajina had gone out from the lift. What the police suspect is that the topmost floor in that building may be the 22nd floor. Evidence has been found to say that Sajina may have gone towards the emergency exit in that building. This is because her dead body had been found near a garden of the 2nd floor and because that emergency door is from that side.
As the child was a newcomer to this surrounding and she was just 4 years old, it is suspected that she may not have known how to go down in the escalator and therefore she may have approached that door. When moving out from that door, a small balcony is to be found. It is learned that the height of the balcony exceeds the child's height. Whatever it is, it is difficult to assume that she forcibly opened it using much effort and then jump into the park seen below. Evidence has still not been found to believe that she had been pushed by someone from there. Her dead body had been recovered towards the corner of a building near the park on the 2nd floor. Neighbours who managed to find her in a serious condition after her fall had promptly taken her to Kalubowila Hospital. Later it was understood that she had passed away on admittance to hospital.
Investigations on the incident are being conducted.
