An unrest was created in Dambulla town yesterday (12) evening as a result of an incident where a young girl who visited a dress shop known as "See Fashion" in Dambulla town to buy a dress had to change her clothes gone inside the fit-on room when a salesman in the shop had
entered the room and had started feeling her body.
One of the two girls who had come from Sigiriya area last afternoon had visited the shop concerned to buy some dresses when she has had to face this mishap.
It is learned that the said room has been separated only by a screen and that the salesman had entered the room pushing aside the screen. When he had entered on that occasion, the girl under question had been only clad in her brassiere covering her body. The salesman had attempted to remove the clothes and the girl had tried to shout, obviously having got scared.
"Don't shout nangi .... why don't you like things like this?" the young salesman had said and had kept on harassing her. With this situation, the girl had jumped out and together with her other friend shouted over this unexpected incident when people in the town had surrounded the shop and searched for the salesman concerned and on that occasion he had gone into hiding. Though the people around had lost their temper and had wanted to bring the salesman out, the shop-owner had intervened and prohibited them from entering. Later he had said that he would sort out the issue with the police.
Though the police searched for the salesman to take him into custody, the shop-owner had tried to safeguard the salesman saying that he had gone out.
But as the two girls and the people in the town who faced this mishap had protested saying that they would not leave the place until the culprits are caught, and had remained there for a few hours, 5 members of the staff including the shop-owner were taken into police custody.
Further inquiries are being conducted by Dambulla Police.
