Ratnapura Police Sergeant speaks out

The police officer called Tissera who has been subjected to suspension of duties for having assaulted a'twilight woman' in the town of Ratnapura sometime back expressed his ideas to a daily newspaper today saying that he behaved in a manner of settling a dispute which occured that day.
He explained all this to Divaina newspaper in the following manner: "Two women were quarreling .... when I tried to settle it, one woman ran away from there. The other woman took a stone into her hand and scolding me, behaved in an unruly manner. Now my duties has been suspended. I am prepared to face any inquiry in this connection".

In the process this woman has filed action with Human Rights Commission for having been assaulted publicly and had even filed a petition with Supreme Court with regard to her Fundamental Rights asking for a compensation of Rs. 500 lakhs.

The suspended police officer over this incident has admitted that he had used a cane and had dealt some blows with it.
