The Children's Home has made arrangements to bestow scholarships to the two children of former English lecturer Sakvithi Ranasingha who is presently imprisoned on a fraud of millions of rupees in cash; for displaying exceptional learning abilities. The children are now under probation care.
Sakvithi Ranasingha who had duped people of their money and had become wealthy and later became bankrupt after spending the money on gambling had gone into hiding with his wife and two children while later the wife too had filed legal action against him for the offence of polygamy and that she was being harassed by him.
Amidst all these complexities, the two children were during this period under special supervision and care of the Probation Department.
Whatever it is, Sakvithi's son and daughter had shown excellent abilities in studies and displayed exceptional prowess above all other children in the Child Care Centre and for this reason the two of them have been included in the scholarship programme conducted annually and sponsored by the Children's Care Unit. They were thus afforded the opportunity of studying at an International School, it was reported.
In addition to studies, Sakvithi's children have shown special abilities in extra curricular activities too.
It was revealed in courts that according to this School, the children would be supplied with the expenses incurred in gaining entrance to the School; other necessary expenses and all related expenses such as for travelling which would be provided by the Child Care.
