Police find Keshali .... in house of relative Supposed to have been hidden under stack of planks
The police were this evening successful in finding missing Keshani who was abducted from her home in Wellawa, Kurunegala bringing solace over the sensation created all over the country.
A wide-scale investigation had been carried out this morning in the area with the participation of a team of
police personnel comprising 60 and during the search operations a tip-off was received at about 4.30 in the evening and as a result the police were able to find the small girl being detained in a house of a relative of Keshani in Kumbukketiya area in Kurunegala.
It was able to find her on a clue provided by a neighbour in the area about the house in which small Keshani was detained.
The child had been kept in a house in Neriyawa area, Kumbukgete. It is situated approximately 8 kms. from Abakolawewa where her house stood.
As the child was found, her hair had been cut and she had said that she had been fed with milk rice for breakfast.
The police were able to find her when she was found near a brick-kiln. On questioning she had said that she was kept hidden under some planks in the house close to the brick-kiln.
It was the work of a family who have had a relationship with small Keshani. For sometime the parents referred to have had disagreements with Keshani's parents. As to why the child had been kept in their possession is still not known.
Two brothers and a mother had lived in the house concerned.
As a consequence of a conflict that arose between the said two brothers who lived in that house one of them had betrayed the other.Thus when the neighbourhood exposed that a girl was being kept in the house by another brother the police arrived on the scene and took a certain young man and his mother were taken into custody from the place where the child was being kept. However the other brother has already fled and the police had begun their investigations and are on his tracks.
It was last 9th night that 4 year old child Thamara Keshani who was sleeping with her brother in the poor house belonging to them covered with polythene covers and was asleep on bed that she had been abducted with the polythene covers being cut. When the public who came to know about this had become dreaded of the next outcome, the police have taken steps to encourage the public to search for information related to the kidnapping. In fact, the Police Media Spokesman told that a sum of Rs. 1 million would be given to anyone who would provide such information.
It was reported that the child is presently under the care of the CID and in good health and that she was taken to hospital this evening to make a further check-up on her.
Mr.P.B. Herath, the grandfather of Keshani Bandara mentioned that he is thankful to the police as well as all sections of the media for having assisted in finding her.
