Sons and daughters of former Ministers as well as a number of artistes would be contesting for the up and coming South and West provincial council elections.
A daughter of Minister Jeevan Cumaratunga, Malsha Cumaratunga, Senal Welgama, son of Minister Kumar Welgama, Sasinda Yapa Abeywardena, son of Minister Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena would be contesting on a fresh note while Randima Gamage, son of Minister Piyasena Gamage who is presently a member of the PC and Kanchana Wieysekera, son of former Minister Mahinda Wijesekera are expected to contest under the UNFA for the forthcoming PC election.
Son of former Late Minister Amarasiri Dodangoda, Isuru Dodangoda, Dulshan Kariyawasam, son of former Deputy Minister Noel Kariyawasam, Thisara Gunasingha, son of former member of parliament Nanda Gunasingha would be contesting on this occasion under the UNFA.
In the process, son of former Minister Hemakumara Nanayakkara, Attorney-at-Law Tharaka Deshabhimanya Nanayakkara, Sanjeewa Karunatilleka, son of former Minister Rupa Karunatilleka, Dr. Kavinda Jayawardena, son of Late member of parliament Dr. Jayalath Jayawardena and Chatura Galappaththi, son of former member of parliament Justin Galappaththi are expected to contest on the UNP ticket.
In the meantime, a number of artistes and media people are hoping to appear as contestants for the forthcoming PC elections. Among actresses, Geetha Kumarasingha, Anarkali Akarsha and Gayesha Perera are prepared to contest from the government party while Nadeesha Hemamali is expected to contest from the UNP. Singer Madhumadhava Aravinda is expected to contest from the government party while up and coming actor Udara Ratnayaka, son of film and tele-creator Bennet Ratnayaka is believed to contest for Gampaha from the UNP.
From among media personalities, those who have appeared for this election are S.M. Marikkar who has emerged from Sirasa and also Susara Dinal and Susil Kindelpitiya.
