Malliya who got trapped ....
to Facebook akki A 35,000 'polla'
Though certain politicians severely advised that those whom you get to know from the Facebook are not true friends and not to place trust in them, young people keep on browsing Facebook and even pin their faith on those appearing in the Facebook.
Recently an incident was reported from Nugegoda of a malli who had been cheated for a sum of money by an akka whom he got to know from the Facebook.
Thilanga Kumara, a young boy living in Malwana who was visiting the Facebook about 6 months ago happened to come across a girl by the name of Harshi Perera who appeared to have a dazzling profile. Though backward at the start, later he got a good response having engaged in chat with her. As time passed, both of them became friends. After coming to know that Harshi was about 2 years elder to him, he began to address her as 'akki'. Of course this untold romance had no age barrier.
The suggestion that malli made, "I want to meet you one day," was accepted by Harshi. "I can come out of home when home people are not at home," said Harshi and named a spot in Kaduwela and about a month later he came to meet her. Thilanga got closer to her during the dialogue that ensued between the two that day. She had told Thilanga that day about an expensive mobile phone and that she wanted to sell it.
"okay ... I'll try to find a buyer," Thilanga had said and had been trying to find a buyer to sell this mobile phone which was worth Rs. 35,000. However, he had not been in the beginning. Later, after discussing with akka, she had suggested him to buy it himself, further saying that it would be a great help to her.
Because it was difficult to throw her request aside, and thinking that it could be a souvenir to him, Thilanga finally decided to buy it himself. He then somehow found the cash to buy it and the next day itself he went in close proximity to the house where she was supposed to be living in Nugegoda of course with the hope of buying the mobile phone from her.
"Malliya .... if my home people see you ... there may be a problem ... so you come near the road close to our house. I'll come out when you come," she had told malli. After a while akka had come to the place at the road when he is supposed to be. Finally, on meeting him akka had said, "Malliya .... that two-storeyed house which you see some distance away is where I live ... my father is very strict. I kept the phone which I have to give ... at home. Now give the money ... I'll go home and bring the money and come".
Malli who trusted her handed over the 35,000 he brought with him and then hid behind a lamp-post and waited for her to bring the promised phone. Akka who went went towards the house however never came back. After half-an-hour passed, the boy spoke to her over the phone to find that it had been switched off. Ultimately, after an hour passed, he approached the house where she had pointed out and on going there, what he came to know was that there was no such girl of that nature there. Thilanga only then realised that he had got caught to a trick played by akka.
Subsequently he had gone to Kohuwala police and lodged a complaint. The courts later granted permission to obtain the relevant records connected t the telephone conversations in order to take akka into custody, according to the complaint made. Police investigations are being conducted in this connection.
