Final rites of Late artiste Cyril Dharmawardena in Melbourne

The final rites of popular actor Cyril Dharmawardena was conducted at Springvale Botanical Burial Grounds in Melbourne on Sunday November 17th amidst several relations and friends. He passed away having suffered from a lung cancer.

Old Boys of Galle Richmond College, colleagues of the Kelaniya campus, Sri Lankan artistes in Melbourne and members of the Melbourne United National Party also joined on this occasion.

Thereligious rites were performed by  Ven. Naotunne Vijitha Thro, Chief incumbent of Keysborough Dhammasana Buddhist Centr, Ven. Akaravita Sanghananda Thero of Dandenong Dhammadeepa Meditation Centre and Ven. theros of Shakyamuni Temple.

It is reported that while dramatist Shrinath Maddumage, Sunil Soysa and Wilfred Siriwardena had paid tributes on this occasion, taped tributes by Minister S.B. Dissanaike, Mr. Karu Jayasuriya m.p. and Kalashoori Sathischandra Edirisingha had been broadcast from Sri Lanka. Messages of condolence from the President and Leader of Opposition too had been read out.

It was also reported that the vote of thanks was given by Cyril Dharmawardena's son Binara Dharmasena which had been a heart-rending one.
