A 'kochok' from parliament member for giving Deputy Minister post to Muthuhettigama ... on Mental Health Day
On the celebrations held yesterday to commemorate the Mental Health Day, Dr. Harsha de Silva greeted both the Hon. President and the new Deputy Minister Muthuhettigama. He said that one could be happy to celebrate that occasion because Muthuhettigama was the only member of parliament to assume such a position through the judiciary after being subjected to a mental examination. His speech was as follows:
"I greet Mr. Muthuhettigama for having been appointed as a Deputy Minister and also the Hon. President today on the National Health Day .... and there's one reason for it. Of those 225 members of parliament, only one of them had been instructed by the judiciary to carry out an examination to check whether the mental state is in proper order. The only member of parliament who got through that examination was my friend Mr. Nishantha Muthuhettigama. I convey my greetings to him as well as the Hon. President.
