17 year old Akila sacrificed his life in Weliweriya ....
for having gone to see why mother was late
17 year old Akila Dinesh, a student of Yakkala Chandrajothi Vidyalaya, studying in grade 12 succumbed to his injuries after receiving gun shot injuries in the clash that took place a few days ago at Weliweriya and the armed forces. Though he was not in any way connected to this protest, he had faced this unfortunate fate. Since his mother had delayed coming home from work, he had gone to the town to escort her home that day amidst commotion.
Akila's mother was an employee at the Free Trade Zone in Biyagama. Though the time that she was usually expected home has passed and Akila had been to the town, he had not been able to locate her even by 7 or 8 that night. He had moved here and there looking for his mother. At about 8.15 that night when the clash assumed a heated atmosphere, Akila happened to be admitted to hospital as a result of shooting which had taken place at that moment after gunshot injuries.
It was reported that some of the public in the area had dispersed and had taken abode in temples and churches. Though Akila's mother had returned home, those in the house had become upset because Akila was not at home. They had then taken steps to search for him, but without avail. They had thought that he had somehow disappeared, but never were aware that he had been a victim of this unfortunate incident.
His mother Mrs.Priyangika Jayawardena had gone to Gampaha General hospital and had with deep sorrow identified the dead body lying at the mortuary as that of her son who had died during the clash.
It was revealed that the deceased Akila Dinesh Jayawardena from Helenwaththa, Weliweriya was preparing for his A/L examination next year and was a student of Chandrajothi Vidyalaya and that he had been in no way connected to this protest.
Akila who had been on his way to the town to look for his mother had unfortunately got into the midst of the clash and thus had to leave his life behind.
