Readers protest for having reported floods while on a man's shoulders Rupavahini reporter thrown out of job
News has been received of a Rupavahini reporter who had been dismissed from service for having presented a video report in an immodest manner depicting the floods that brought tragedy to a large number of people in the recent past. Narayan Pargaein is a senior video reporter with 17 years of media experience attached to the Rupavahini channel of the Indian Rupavahini, News Express.
He happened to bring in a video report from Northern Uttarkhand area in New Delhi about the floods which brought disaster and death to a large number of Indians. He had wanted to present the video report in a manner that it portrayed the scene of floods from the background, and for this purpose he had instructed the colleague who was standing in the water to hold the camera and to announce the news description from the microphone by getting on top of the shoulders of a flood victim.
It was something uncommon for video viewers to notice that the reporter was not concerned about the weight of the person carrying him while the news was being broadcast about those who died and faced this great calamity. Some had said that this was another style of the Gangnam dance.
Though he sent this abnormal video report to the News Express media institution, authorities at the News section decided not to broadcast it because of the immodest nature it depicted. Whatever it is, Narayan who was talking big about his report, had then attempted to upload it to the YouTube because his Rupavahini channel rejected it. It didn't take many hours for the video to circulate in the internet where a huge number of Indian viewers are used to seeing it.
It was on this occasion that things went wrong for him. Though he expected praise for his report, most of those who viewed it interpreted it as inhuman for him to climb on to a man's shoulders and to appear that way. In the same way, the relevant media institution too was brought into discredit saying that broadcasting something like a tragedy relating to floods should be portrayed in a responsible manner. Those who delved into the private life-details of Narayan said that the caste issue which has widely spread in India could be understood in association with this incident.
The criticism has gone so far as to mean that this controversy was successful enough for Narayan to climb on the shoulders of someone who was beneath his own caste.
All this information did great damage to the reputation of the media institution for which Narayan served. Finally, it was by considering the protest of the public-viewers that authorities of the institution took action in dismissing him from service.
