'Tigers' who staged protest .....
in conflict with Sri Lankans in London
There was a conflict that took place between Sri Lankan cricketing fans with a group of 'Tigers' who were distributing handbills outside the Oval after the match between Sri Lanka and Australia held at the Oval yesterday.
This group who protested asking for Sri Lankan cricket tournaments be boycotted because the Tamil community of Sri Lanka has been subjected to discrimination. This conflict had arisen at the moment when cricketing fans had been celebrating the victory of Sri Lanka over Australia and were coming out of the Oval grounds.
About 60 Tamil activists including children had participated in the protest. It has been reported that Tamil protestors attired in T-shirts depicting the Eelam territory had been engaged in this protest right throughout the last few days. Whatever it is, though the police had taken steps to prevent this disturbance, nobody was taken into custody.
