JAYA-SRI AND BOB MARLEY

We now sing ...with Bob Marley's son

     The Late most popular Jamaican singer Bob Marley is the father of 13 children. At the time he passed away from cancer, he had 9 wives.

    After his demise, the children too have embarked on the music field and most of his sons such as Saggy, Robbie, Rohan, Julian, Damien and Kimoni have become very popular.

    Rohitha Jayalath, leader of the JayaSri band who has its base in Italy expresses his views to a weekend newspaper recently saying that he now sings with the son of Bob Marley.

    He has not mentioned in particular as to who it is from among those mentioned above. Rohitha spoke about his band as follows:
*In which way was the JayaSri band started?
  Actually, I and my younger brother was doing music from the time we were small. After that when we went to Europe to we got together with groups there and started some music bands. After that we thought that it would be good if we establish our own music band with a Sinhala name ..... because we'd be able to talk about our country since we go overseas most often. It was like that that we started this music band with the name JayaSri ..... with a Shri logo carried around my neck.

 *When comparing with music bands of Europe, what is Rohitha's idea about music bands in Sri Lanka?
                                                             We of course have made ourselves well-established in Europe. We have been there for a period of 20 years. We started our band in a small way and we managed to become popular because also of our luck. We display our skills side by side with other music bands in Europe. We present ourselves even with the music group of Bob Marley. That we believe is the greatest victory we achieved where music is concerned. It is so difficult to do a thing like that being within Sri Lanka. That is the difference that we see.
