SL MAID GETS 10 YRS IN JAIL FOR KILLING LOVER IN SINGAPORE

SL maid kills lover Jailed in Singapore

     It is reported that a Sri Lankan housemaid employed in Singapore has been sentenced to 10 years imprisonment by the courts in that country. She had been given this punishment on the allegations that she had murdered her illicit Indian lover in the year 2009. After hearing that her illicit lover was getting married to another, she had lost her temper and had killed him with a dumb-bell used in weight-lifting.

     She is a mother of two and during the first period of employment itself, she had struck up a friendship with a handsome young man whom she had seen; he happens to be a permanent resident there. Further, she had made it a habit of going to his home from time to time when he was alone and has behaved as a married couple.

     This female, Tharmalingam Puwaneshwari, 34 has served as a housemaid in a house in Singapore. She has maintained such an illicit affair with a 32 year old young man by the name of Murugaiian Selvam. He was a bachelor and an Indian national, being a permanent resident of Singapore. When this affair was progressing, he had told her that since those living in her house where she was living was affluent, to inform him of a shortcut whereby he could get their money. As Puwaneshwari  had told him that there were cheque books in the house in which the amount is not written and therefore to bring such cheque books and give him. When inquiring as to why he was making this sudden request, she had found out that his parents had found a marriage partner for him from India and that he requires money for that marriage and to marry her thus had been forcing her to do this robbery.

     Puwaneshwari had got to know about this and at a time when she had visited this house there had engaged in an exchange of words where she could not control her temper and had tried to assault him. At that moment what she could get hold of was a dumb-bell weighing used for weightlifting of 5 kgs. from an adjoining room and had attacked him from it. He had died on the spot.

     In this connection, the Case had been heard for a period close upon 4 years in Singapore. What she had kept on saying in courts was that she committed this murder because she was influenced and forced to rob.

     It was mentioned that Puwaneshwari was a mother of 2 children and was married in Sri Lanka. It was also mentioned in courts that she left Sri Lanka and come to Singapore because of harassment she received from her husband.

     According to the verdict given yesterday, she was sentenced to jail for a period of 10 years.
